Department of Defense

The Minerva Research Initiative began in 2008 in the Department of Defense as a collaboration with research universities to build a deeper understanding of the social, cultural, and political dynamics that shape regions of strategic interest around the world. In 2014, the DoD awarded the Pardee Center a grant to identify and measure (im)balances in development to determine what sets of conditions are necessary for popular grievances to spark abrupt socio-political change, using a combination of statistical and algorithmic analyses of existing data sets, as well as qualitative case studies. The DoD grant is active until 2017.
